Lecanora hypocrocinoides Lumbsch

  Thallus verrucose, whitish grey to yellowish white, epruinose, glossy. Soredia absent. Prothallus whitish grey. Apothecia sessile, 0.5–1.0 mm diam.; disc red-brown to grey-brown, epruinose; margin prominent, entire, verruculose. Cortex indistinct, inspersed with small crystals, 10–15 µm thick laterally and basally. Amphithecium with small and large crystals (melacarpella-type); small crystals rapidly dissolving in KOH; large crystals insoluble in KOH. Upper part of hypothecium hyaline; lower part reddish brown, K+ red to purple. Parathecium hyaline, c.15 µm thick, with small crystals. Epihymenium red-brown, with crystals; pigments and crystals soluble in KOH (chlarotera-type). Hymenium hyaline. Paraphyses simple to sparingly branched, not thickened apically. Ascospores ellipsoidal, 10.5–13.5 × 6.5–7.5 µm. CHEMISTRY: Thallus and apothecial margin K+ yellow, C–, Pd+ pale orange; containing atranorin (major), zeorinone (major), boryquinone (minor), chloroatranorin (minor), constipatic acid (minor), protoconstipatic acid (minor), usnic acid (minor) and traces of unknowns.
     
  An endemic species on the bark of various trees, including Acacia and Timonius, in dry-sclerophyll forest and Eucalyptus-dominated woodland and grassland in eastern Qld; occurs at elevations of 150–450 m.
